The types of dentures available and how to care for them

If you have damaged or broken teeth or you have lost your teeth, then you definitely need dentures. Thus, if you are thinking to have them, there are certain questions on which you might need clarity. For instance, you may want to know what their types are, how can they help, whether they can get damaged, can there be any pain, and so on. Once you have all the answers, you are good to go. To start with, let us know what dentures are. They are basically artificial teeth along with gums that are created and fixed to replace the damaged or lost teeth. They can be partial or full and can be placed on the upper jaw or lower jaw of the mouth.

Explaining about dentures replacement
When you need a partial or complete dentures replacement, inform yourself about the
available options, before you make the right choice.

The Types:

If you are recommended to have full dentures, then you need to have an acrylic base which is flesh coloured. Upper denture base looks like a palate, and the lower one is made in a horseshoe shape to fit your tongue as well. Not many of them know that these artificial teeth can be customised by taking the right impression of the person’s mouth. However, there are typically three types of dentures explained below.

1. Partial Dentures:

It is based on a metal. At times, there are crowns fixed in place of the natural teeth that help the other teeth as anchors. They are removed as and when required. These can be easily fitted to the gum. These can be taken out when you need to clean them and while you are sleeping.

2. Complete Conventional Dentures:

It is put in the mouth after removing the damaged teeth and after the area is healed. The entire procedure can take months of time. For people looking for a permanent solution to their teeth problems, these are a right option. And that is the reason; it takes about 8 to 11 months of time to get it done.

3. Immediate Complete Dentures:

They offer your teeth a better shape and it also acts as a temporary fix before you can have these ones.

The Benefits:

  • You can eat and speak like before and comfortably.
  • Without the denture, face-mussels can sag and make you look older. They will improve your smile and appearance.
  • You are saved from many reoccurring tooth problems, infection, and pain. your visit to the dentist is therefore also reduced.

Useful Tips:

  • Never miss to clean them as this may cause you mouth infections.
  • While cleaning them, be careful as they are delicate and can get damaged when dropped on the ground. Make sure you are having a towel for support. And don’t do it when kids are around.
  • They should not dry. Also, don’t ever make use of hot water for keeping or cleaning them.
  • Make it a habit to clean your tongue, palate, and gums each day. You need to have soft bristle brush to clean, this way it is easy to get rid of plaque as well.
  • If you find any chips or cracks or breaks in your artificial teeth then do not try any DIY procedures, rather you need to consult your dentist as soon as you can.
  • Never sleep wearing them. Soak them in the solution in the night.
  • Don’t use toothpaste on them clean them with a denture cleaner.
  • Rinse them after every meal.

It is always important to go to a dentist for regular checkups so that any minor issues are resolved at right time. We often overlook going to a dentist, it is better we adopt such a habit in our lifestyle. Take care of your dentures.
